This morning I was using our exercycle. An exercycle is a piece of exercise equipment - a bicycle that is fixed in place with special wheels that can turn, but the bicycle itself cannot go anywhere.
At about the halfway mark in my exercise routine, a voice said to me as if to discourage me, “You are not going anywhere.” As if to say to me mockingly, “What you are doing here is futile; you are not accomplishing anything by being here."
Literally speaking, the bike itself was not physically moving, so in one sense I was not going anywhere. But in another sense, I was accomplishing a great deal.
In the natural, I was increasing my heart rate and fitness level to keep up with the younger generation, whom I want to be fit enough to continue to enjoy. I was also increasing muscle strength, agility, and hopefully losing unnecessary weight. All this, so that when I do have a mountain to climb, I will have the faith, patience and endurance to accomplish it. This is also true in a spiritual sense.
The Lord says,
"Do not look to the past (where we have been) but look to the future (where He is taking us). So that in Him, we can accomplish much."
The Apostle Paul also said,
“Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13b – 14
God has not finished with us yet! Hallelujah!
