Let the Love of Christ Shine Through

As I began cleaning our shower the other day, the Lord began to speak to me about the need to represent His gospel well, saying,

“Make sure the gospel you share is not the Claytons version.”

God was using an example from a television advertisement that played in Australia and in New Zealand in the 1980s. It was advertising a non-alcoholic drink called Claytons. Their catchphrase was, “The drink you have when you’re not having a drink.” Because of this, the word Claytons became a common household reference for a fake, a poor substitute, or a poor imitation that exists only in name.

In using this phrase, the Lord was able to use a situation I was currently in to illustrate to me the need for genuine repentance. Whilst cleaning the grout between the tiles in our shower, the Lord began to remind me of how white the grout once used to look – when we first moved into the house. But on closer inspection, we soon discovered that the previous owners had simply painted over the grout. The paint soon washed off after the shower came into use, revealing the true nature of the grout underneath. There were a number of other instances like this that hadn’t been acknowledged by the previous owners, but on the whole, once remedied, we became very happy living in our new home.

The Lord said through the prophet Isaiah,

“I am the LORD, that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another, nor My praise to carved images. Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.”

Isaiah 42:8 & 9

“When I do a new thing, I do it well, says the Lord.”

Amen.
